Welcome, Everyone!
INTRO
Over the past few months my team has been thinking of ideas of what exactly we want our project to be. Taking the necessary amount of time to decide on what is going to be implemented and what is going to be thrown out to make our project a success. This log is going to be more of an introductory log of who I am, what I hope to see in my team’s skills, and what we plan on making.
ABOUT ME
My is Tyler Swearingen and I am a senior at Shawnee State University. I am dual majoring in Computer Engineering and in the Digital Simulation and Design programs. I am twenty-one years old and live in West Union, Ohio. I decided back in high school that at first, I wanted to become a great artist and sought out to attend college for a degree in some field of art. As a few years went by I realized that I play games a lot and I mean a lot and decided to take a trip to Shawnee State University and check out their programs. The program that interested me the most was the gaming and computer degree. I was already a tech nerd and growing up played on computers and would always try and help my dad fix any of his electronics that were either wearing out or just flat out broke. The one thing that interested me the most was when I was shown the classes that were required for both degrees many of them were the same. This led me to dual majoring because I could finish two majors in the amount of time it took to finish one except for a few extra classes.

After three years here at SSU I have learned many things that makes an average programmer look more like a beginner. I have taken a variety of classes that showcase many programs that deal with networking, algorithmic functions, 2D and 3D graphics, etc. With that in mind I will use the knowledge gained from those courses and apply it wherever it is needed in this project.
HOPES FOR THIS PROJECT
There are many things that are going to be added and discarded to and from our project in which depend on time, experience, and other factors. With that in mind my hope for the project is to make some thing very well thought out and polished. I want to have the motivation of finishing what we started and making it the best of not only my abilities but, my teams as well. I do think a disadvantage that my team will encounter is the art needed to make the game what it should be. Many of that includes, models, textures, backgrounds, audio and just anything
that makes our game more compelling to play. Our team is only composed of two people, therefore, focusing on the art later rather than earlier will make it easier to tackle the coding side of the project. Because we are not artists much more time will be needed in creating assets and such for our game and this is another reason why tackling the art later will make things easier. Placeholder art will be used to speed up the process of the development side as well.
Game Idea
Our game idea is to create multiple minigames/levels based on a specific theme. Another way to describe this is to think about a game jam. We want to take that idea and further expand it where you play as a character who travels through these minigames/levels. When entering a new level, the art style may change, the core gameplay loop may change, and even the input system in which specific buttons or keys may change. The main idea is we want to showcase the idea of one person’s game in a format of multiple games. You will traverse through these games and get to experience what each developers’ ideas were for the theme they were given. There will be certain levels that pertain to the idea of “BUGS” and how you need to overcome them. Some may be longer than others and some may change the entire experience all together. We want to show our ability in creating multiple genres throughout each minigame/level the player will encounter and how it changes the way the player handles that specific level. Many of the minigames/levels will be showcased throughout this DevLog and will explain what was worked and what could be changed or polished.
Anyways we still have a lot to discuss and further plans for this series!
Check out the next update in which we SOLO develop a mini-game!?
See you guys next time!
